ABOUT FACULTYThe Faculty of Agronomy is the oldest faculty of Azerbaijan State Agricultural University. 5 out of 8 departments of the Faculty of Agriculture (botany, meteorology, soil science, general agriculture and crop production), launched on December 14th , 1920 as part of the Baku Polytechnic Institute, had an agronomic profile and from 1926 to 1929, it functioned as part of the agronomy department.

The Faculty of Agriculture continued its activities until 1929. In May of that year, by the decision of the Council of People's Commissars, the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute was established on the basis of this faculty,the Agricultural Faculty created here was later renamed the Agronomy Faculty.

The faculty at different times was led by outstanding scientists such as:
Vladimir Pavlovich Smirnov-Loginov, Husu Nagiyev, B.Makinski, E.Kuchayev, Mikayıl Gulubeyov, Aligulu Narimanov, Alakbar Guliyev, Niyaz Safarov, Hidayat Aslanov, Firudin Babayev, Huseyn Khalilov, Bilal Bayramov, Faig Mammadov, Chingiz Novruzov, Yasir Jafarov, Jamil Haciyev, Nizami Seyidaliyev, Hasil Fataliyev. Currently, the dean of the faculty is the honored teacher of the Republic of Azerbaijan, associate professor Maharram Ismayilov.

ABOUT FACULTY


In the formation and development of the agronomy faculty, as well as in the preparation of national scientific and pedagogical personnel, there is a merit of outstanding foreign scientists such as: - V.P. Smirnov-Loginov, A.A. Grossheim, V.V. Akimtsev, D.V. Ivanov, AT. Figurovsky, D.A. Shutov, M.V. Brzezitsky, N.I. Malov, P.E. Grebennikov.

Many of these scientists led relevant departments, dozens of candidate and doctoral dissertations were defended under their supervision.
Currently, the Faculty of Agronomy is preparing specialists at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels in the specialties of “Soil Science and Agrochemistry”, “Agronomy”, “Horticulture and Vegatable Growing”, “Ecology”, “Plant Protection”, “Forestry” and “Aquatic Bioresources and aquaculture".
During its activity, the faculty has trained more than 10,000 highly qualified agricultural specialists in various specialties. Among them are outstanding scientists, statesmen, politicians and heroes of labor.

Currently, the Faculty of Agronomy has a rich material and technical base, as well as classrooms and laboratories equipped with modern educational equipment. Faculty scientists, along with the training of highly qualified agricultural specialists, also make a valuable contribution to the development of agricultural science.

Currently, employees of the departments of horticulture, biology, cropproduction and plant protection, ecology and forestry, soil science and agrochemistry, general agriculture, genetics and selection conduct extensive research in various fields of agricultural science,contacting with leading enterprises and farmers of therepublic, they provide practical assistancet othem, check the results of their scientific research on farmsin various soil and climatic conditions in the regions.
In connection with the development of the agricultural sector, now the main base of research departments are advanced farms, research institutes, educational and experimental farms of the university.

Teaching and professor staff of the Faculty in addition to teaching and research, is actively involved in the preparation of textbooks, manuals and monographs.

Faculty of Agronomy exists since the establishment of the University. When Baku Technical Institute was inaugurated in 1920, it had five agronomy departments out of eight in total, where outstanding scholars taught. Renowned graduates of the faculty include Hasan Aliyev, Valida Tutayug, Imam Mustafayev, Alakbar Guliyev, Ilyas Abdullayev, Mammadtagi Jafarov, Siddiga Mammadova, Maharram Babayev, professors Musa Musayev, Bala Agayev, Hasan Seyidov, Niyaz Safarov, Khalis Gulahmadov, Bahman Khalilov, Husein Khalilov, Shikar Aliyev, etc.

In 2020, the faculty was reorganized and transferred to a new building. On 24 June 2020, as part of their visits to Ganja, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva have attended the inauguration of a new educational block of Azerbaijan State Agricultural University. In the new educational building, built at the expense of state investments allocated by the Order of the President of Azerbaijan dated January 22, 2018, all conditions have been created for the training of personnel with a modern worldview, as well as for the effective conduct of scientific research. At the disposal of the teaching staff and students, the latest visual aids, classrooms and laboratories equipped with modern equipment were transferred. All the necessary infrastructure has been created here. Service and utility rooms have been created. The new educational building trains 3,000 students in two shifts.

ABOUT FACULTY

On April 8, 2019, Azerbaijan State Agricultural University and Ege University of the Republic of Turkey signed a protocol of intent at the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The protocol provides for negotiating bilateral diploma programs in line with the implementation of the State Program on Increasing International Competitiveness of the Education System in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019-2023 that was approved by the Resolution of the country’s President. Based on mutual consent, the project implementation has started in the 2020-2021 academic year on “Agronomy”, “Plant protection”, “Agroengeneering” and “Economics” undergraduate programs.

The education process is being financed under the State Program and implemented within the curricula of Ege University. Diplomas will be issued by two universities. The tuition is free of charge. Classes are taught in Turkish by visiting professors from Ege University.
