A memorial event was held at the Azerbaijan State Agrarian University (ADAU) to mark the 110th anniversary of the birth of Valida Tutayug, one of the first female doctors of biological sciences in Azerbaijan and a prominent scientist who played an important role in the development of botany and plant science.
At the event, the National Anthem was first played, and then a minute of silence was observed in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and territorial integrity of our lands.
Then, a video clip reflecting the life and scientific activities of Valida Tutayug was shown, and detailed information about her contributions to Azerbaijani science was presented.
ADAU Rector Zafar Gurbanov spoke about Valida Tutayug's unparalleled services to the country's science. The Rector noted that Valida Tutayug left an indelible mark in the history of Azerbaijani biological science with both her high scientific training and her activities as a field doctor. He drew attention to the importance of students continuing the path of such scientists in the future.
Later, at the event, the head of the Biology Department Arif Gaziyev, honorary professor and honored teacher of the university Bahman Aliyev, associate professor of the Department of General Agriculture, Genetics and Breeding Firudin Gurbanov, head of the Botany Department of Ganja State University and corresponding member of ANAS Vagif Novruzov, as well as the head of the Ecology and Forestry Department, Professor Nizami Seyidaliyev shared their memories of Valida Tutayug. In their speeches, they emphasized her high professionalism, care for students, and important role in the formation of the scientific environment of the institute during their many years of joint work with the scientist.
At the end of the event, Elgun Mahmudov, a junior research fellow at the Biotechnology Center of ADAU, and Firuz Varangi, a first-year student in Pharmacy at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, spoke and emphasized that Valide Tutayug's scientific legacy is still a great source of inspiration for young scientists and students today.
